Citroën Revolutionizes the Market: Save Up to €700 a Year with the ë-C3 Compared to a Gasoline Car

Citroën has found the formula to attract drivers to its electric vehicles: a significantly lower cost of use compared to gasoline cars. This strategy has allowed the French brand to position itself as a competitive option, even against Chinese automakers.

Despite the challenges facing electric cars, such as high prices and limited charging stations, Citroën has shifted consumer perception. The company has established itself as one of the most affordable alternatives for those looking to buy an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. A prime example is the new Citroën ë-C3, which offers an economical option compared to combustion vehicles at a price below €23,000.

With a base price of €22,590 (before incentives and promotions), the ë-C3 is cheaper than its direct competitor, the Renault 5 E-Tech, which costs around €30,000. Manufactured by the Stellantis Group, this model could inspire other brands like Opel or Fiat to invest in low-cost electric vehicles.

The ë-C3: Long-Term Savings

Citroën CEO Thierry Koskas emphasizes that the attractive price of the ë-C3 is not just a marketing strategy but a “future investment.” In an interview with the German media outlet Welt, Koskas highlighted that this electric car provides significant long-term savings for drivers.

According to Koskas, the ë-C3 only requires around €600 in electricity per year to cover 12,000 kilometers, a figure considerably lower than the approximately €1,300 a gasoline car would need for fuel. This translates to an annual saving of about €700. Furthermore, even without government incentives, an electric vehicle proves to be a profitable long-term investment.

While the ë-C3 may not have the highest power among electric models, its 83 kW motor delivers 113 hp and a range of up to 300 kilometers, making it an attractive option for those seeking an affordable and practical electric car. Citroën also plans to launch an even more economical version, the ë-C3 200, with a smaller battery and a price below €20,000, expected by mid-2025.

A Budget-Friendly Alternative Compared to Competitors

The key to Citroën’s success lies in offering affordable electric vehicles that meet consumer needs. Additionally, the brand is developing mild-hybrid versions to navigate mobility restrictions in Low Emission Zones (LEZs).

Koskas noted that the price difference between the ë-C3 and the mild-hybrid model is only €4,750, giving buyers the flexibility to choose according to their preferences. Citroën has also confirmed that this option will extend to other electric models, allowing customers to opt for more economical versions with smaller batteries or alternatives with greater range at a slightly higher cost.
